Check Your Website Enquiry Path

By Dhairya Patel · Updated

Test the journey from landing page to a received enquiry. Measure before promising improvement.

I review a website around one customer task. That might be requesting an estimate, booking through an existing provider or asking about a service. I record the intended route and test it from the visitor's first page to the business's received message.

Check the offer before changing the button

Confirm that the page explains the service, buyer, scope, location and price or quote process. A visitor needs enough information to judge fit. A larger button cannot explain an offer that remains unclear.

Ask someone unfamiliar with the business to describe what they can buy and what happens next. Record where they hesitate and the words they use. Treat that observation as one test, rather than a general conversion statistic. Check several relevant customers before turning it into a claim.

Use a first-screen review

Open the page on a phone. Check whether the heading and supporting line remain readable, the main action is visible and the page is stable as assets load. Repeat with a longer business name and enlarged text where the browser allows it.

The review is a practical check, not a five-second ranking rule. Do not hide useful navigation or force every customer through the same route. A returning customer may need hours or a phone number more than a sales introduction.

Replace uncertain claims with inspectable evidence

A real work example can show the task, scope and delivered files. A process can explain who does the work, when review happens and what transfers at handoff. A price table can state inclusions and exclusions. Use the evidence the business has.

Do not invent a review because the page has a testimonial slot. Do not label an illustrative design as a client result. Keep any claimed increase beside its source, measurement period and definition. Without those records, describe the deliverable.

Test every route to contact

  1. Follow the main action from each important landing page.
  2. Confirm the form asks only for information needed at that stage.
  3. Check visible labels, instructions and required fields.
  4. Use the keyboard to reach and operate the controls.
  5. Submit an authorised test through the real delivery route.
  6. Verify receipt and compare the message with what was entered.
  7. Test an invalid field and a delivery failure.

A delivery failure should explain that the brief was not sent. Preserve the entered text and provide an appropriate recovery path. A success message should appear only when the receiving service confirms acceptance. An email draft is a recovery option, not proof that an email has been sent.

Measure a defined outcome

Define the denominator and outcome before comparing periods. An enquiry rate might be valid received enquiries divided by eligible visits in the same period. Qualified enquiries are a separate measure. Record spam, internal tests, duplicate messages and the channels included.

For an illustrative calculation, 6 valid enquiries from 300 eligible visits is 6 ÷ 300 = 2%. Those are sample numbers, not a studio or client result. If the next period has different traffic sources or seasonal demand, the comparison needs that context.

Search Console's performance report measures search impressions and clicks. It is not an inbox receipt count. Keep search visibility, site behaviour and actual sales stages separate so the model does not treat them as the same event.

Change one defined problem and retest

Write the observed failure, the proposed change and the expected customer behaviour. Fix broken delivery before experimenting with colour or wording. For a low-volume business, interviews and direct route tests may be more useful than a split test with very few outcomes.

Keep a dated record of changes. Recheck keyboard access, narrow layouts and message delivery after a form or navigation edit. Do not announce a percentage improvement without a comparable baseline and enough evidence to support it.

Choose a defined next step

Care Improve is $499 monthly. It includes Active care and one scoped page or enquiry-flow improvement within a three-hour total monthly allowance, including edits and a 20-minute call. The tier commits defined work. It does not promise an enquiry increase.
